Steam distillation

Steam distillation relies on the difference in boiling points between water and other compounds to separate them. It plays an important part in the production of liquor and essential oils.

#Distillers

You won’t find a lot of distillers (or stills) in the Fifth World. Most stills take the form of an elaborate and sophisticated piece of pottery. It takes an accomplished ceramicist to make an effective still.

Many say that copper stills produce the very best results, but most available copper oxidized into a useless state during the Rusting Age, so only rarely can a community find enough of it to make a serviceable still. Even when they can, because it has become so rare, few metallurgists know the ancient art of how to create one. Those villages that have a copper still count themselves as extraordinarily wealthy and guard it closely. Some regional mythological cycles feature generational feuds that begin with the attempt to steal or destroy a copper still.
