African rice
African rice refers to a species of rice domesticated in West Africa around 3,000 years ago. Though less widely-distributed and well-known than Asian rice, Oryza glaberrima has survived into the Fifth World. Though once overtaken by Asian rice even in West Africa, the collapse of civilization brought with it an increasing number of local farmers invested in trying to save the more local rice varieties. Though traditional agriculture no longer works, African rice has nonetheless become a common feral species found throughout West Africa and some neighboring areas.
